Sheffield -Our Orchard City

Grow Sheffield and Abundance have always had a vision of our city with enough fruit to harvest and eat for any resident in their own community. Over the years Abundance has harvested many tonnes of fruit and distributed it to folk across the city who might otherwise not have access to free fresh fruit, and many an apple crumble has been served up by volunteers at Lunch Clubs, using Abundance harvested apples!

A few years ago we decided to ‘go into production’ with fruit trees grafted at our grafting workshops, and now we have a thriving operation – Sheffield Fruit Trees supplying unique apple, pear, plum, cherry, damson, quince trees to the public, community gardens, schools and Friends of Sheffield’s parks, using any surplus funds to support our Tree and Abundance projects.

We are pleased and proud that in 2017 we are able to work towards our vision by planting 4 small orchards in Westfield, Nether Edge, Longley and Bradfield and a larger one in Wybourn. This project is in conjunction with the local communities and with the encouragement and advice from the Council’s Woodlands Team and financial support from Trees for Cities.

Here’s the time table of events – come and join us and help increase Sheffield’s Abundance in the future!
