Seeds to Suppers – Sharrow

Grow Sheffield has embarked on an exciting partnership project with Shipshape health and wellbeing project in Sharrow to deliver weekly sessions for members of the local community.

Sessions explore ‘growing your own’ in a community setting and link with the established and much-loved cookery activities at the centre; as well as harvesting local fruit and distributing, processing and preserving the bounty!

Sessions over the summer holidays are welcoming families to get children excited about food and growing and then sit down together to a delicious lunch with produce freshly plucked from the garden!

The project hopes to inspire participants to engage in gardening and healthy food options as well as building relationships, highlighting the abundance of ‘waste’ fruit that is available locally, and improve access to Grow Sheffield activities and skills in communities with typically lower incomes, increased health inequalities and poorer employment outcomes.

StoS2Emphasising confidence and skills building as well as tackling health issues, the project will encourage and enable the formation of a local, self-directing and independent Abundance group which can harness local resources to increase access to healthy food and learning opportunities in their local community.

The project will run until July 2017 and has been made possible with grant from Awards for All.
